How can you help my hearing/ear discomfort

A build up of wax in your ear can affect your hearing so sounds are muffled, unclear and quieter than they should be.

Removal of this earwax can help to restore hearing and ease any discomfort, often described by patients as a sensation of "fullness"

What is the process?

We gather your medical background and carry out examination of the ear using a high powered microscope. This allows us to look deep into the ear canals so we can see what needs to be removed. before we apply gentle suction to ease the wax out of the ear. This ensures we are able to carry out the procedure quickly, safely and effectively.

How long does it take?

The microsuction process is swift and usually takes just 30 minutes. We always allow enough time to understand your condition and to carry out treatment.

Who will do my treatment?

Our pharmacist is fully accredited and experienced to provide safe and effective examinaton, assessment and treatment. We are partnerned with Tympahealth one of the UK's largest and most respected providers of ear microsuction training and service.

Is it safe / painful?

The suction process we use is able to draw out ear wax gently and safely. It is a more comfortable procedure compared to older treatments like ear irrigation

Whilst ear irrigation can be effective it is also associated with side effects and can cause complications such as ear infections.

How much does it cost?

The initial assessment of your condition it free.

We show a video of the inside of your ear/s as part of the free consultation, so you can see any wax build-up for yourself before you decide to proceed to treatment. There is absolutely no obligation to have treatment.

Cost of treatment is just £30 for one ear and discounted to £55 for both ears.

Can I get this service on the NHS

Ear wax microsuction is the most effective treatment for ear wax build-up but is NOT available on the NHS. Popular NHS treatments include the use of ear drops and these are available to purchase without a visit to the GP or a prescription, from Wolstenholme pharmacy .

Do you offer ear wax syringing

Ear wax syringing is generally not as effective or as conveneinet as microsuction. It involves administering liquids into the ear to soften the wax usually a few days before the process which is then carried out by a healthcare professional. It can be uncomfoartable and cause ear infections.

Do you offer a hearing service / hearing aids?

We currently do not offer a hearing service but it is something that we are looking into providing going forward. We are part of a network of ear specialists and we will happily refer you to other qualified professionals for this.
